Etsy Trends 2026: Checking All 7 Holiday Predictions

Etsy holiday trends 2026 have arrived, and some of the numbers are pretty wild. An 8,500% increase in DIY activity searches? A 1,400% jump in personalized friend gifts? And apparently, pirate boots are making a comeback. Yes, pirate boots. Arrrrgh! 🏴‍☠️ On October 14, Etsy released its Fall and Winter 2026 Seller Trend Report, highlighting seven trends it believes will influence holiday shopping this year. Sounds great, right? But I had a question. Are these trends actually showing up outside Etsy, or are we looking at another collection of impressive-sounding search statistics?

Etsy Trends 2026 showing Mike mascot, Sheldon, and Tater beside the text “Etsy Trends 2026 7 Holiday Predictions” with holiday trend examples including an ornament, mug, and pirate boot.

So I went looking. I checked what major retailers like Target are featuring, compared Etsy’s predictions with Michaels’ independent crafting research, and looked at reports from the National Retail Federation and fashion publications. And guess what? Several of Etsy’s predictions have some pretty convincing outside support. Others? Well, let’s just say I’m not rushing out to manufacture ruffled tablecloths quite yet, lol.

I’ve operated an Etsy shop since 2014, and I know how tempting it can be to jump on the latest trend. But a big increase in searches doesn’t automatically translate into sales, and just because something’s popular doesn’t mean it’s right for your shop. Let’s look at all seven Etsy holiday trends, what the independent evidence tells us, and which opportunities small sellers might actually want to investigate.

What Are Etsy’s Holiday Trends for 2026?

Etsy’s seven Fall and Winter 2026 trends are Merrymaxxing, Mark of the Maker, Table Dressing, Craftmas, Operatic Drama, Family Reimagined, and Freaky Festive Shoes. The company identified these themes using internal marketplace data and broader cultural forecasting, including its collaboration with fashion trend forecaster Mandy Lee. Lee is a Brooklyn-based fashion trend forecaster known online as @oldloserinbrooklyn. She has built a following of more than half a million people on TikTok by analyzing emerging fashion trends and predicting which styles might catch on next. And since we’re investigating whether Etsy’s predictions hold up outside its own marketplace, I think it’s worth knowing who’s helping make those predictions, too.

But instead of simply repeating Etsy’s descriptions, I wanted to see whether other retailers and independent researchers were seeing similar developments. Here’s what I found.

Do Etsy’s 2026 Holiday Trends Hold Up Outside Etsy?

Several of the Etsy 2026 trends predictions align with what other retailers and industry researchers are reporting, although some have stronger independent evidence than others. Here’s how all seven compare.

Etsy figures come from its October 14, 2026 Seller Trend Report. The outside evidence comes from different companies, time periods, and measurement methods. It supports the general direction of a trend, not necessarily Etsy’s exact percentage.

A few things immediately stand out. First, this isn’t just Etsy throwing around trendy names. Several themes overlap with what other retailers have been seeing for months. Second, some of the strongest supporting evidence involves actual purchases, not just searches. And third, the biggest percentage increase isn’t necessarily the best opportunity for sellers. That last one is particularly important for small business owners to know. Let’s take a closer look at each of the Etsy 2026 Trends.

Is Merrymaxxing Really a Christmas Trend for 2026?

Yes. Etsy’s Merrymaxxing trend aligns with broader retail interest in colorful, whimsical, and maximalist Christmas decorations, including styles featured by Target and highlighted in retail industry reporting. Merrymaxxing is essentially Christmas decorating with the volume turned all the way up. For the Etsy trends 2026 report, we’re talking rhinestones, bold colors, unusual ornaments, sparkling decorations, and enough personality to make a traditional Christmas tree look a little underdressed.

Etsy reports:

  • Whimsy item searches increased 110%.
  • Bedazzled kit searches increased 218%.
  • Favorites on whimsical tree decorations increased 62%.
  • Searches for whimsical decor among Gen Z shoppers increased 61%.

These aren’t all the same kind of metric. Etsy measures some through searches, one through favorites, and one through activity from a particular demographic. Still, they suggest shoppers are responding to expressive decorations. Sellers should understand that using these Trend terms as keywords won’t necessarily surface shopper search results. Merrymaxxing, for example, is showing zero search results in the Etsy Marketplace Insights (at the time of this post). This is just a term they’ve used to describe the trend.

What Are Other Retailers Saying About Merrymaxxing?

Target’s 2026 Christmas collection includes holiday styles such as Winter Village and Festive Pop, alongside more traditional options. The Winter Village collection emphasizes cheerful colors and whimsical details. That doesn’t prove customers are purchasing these decorations at record levels, but it does show Target is actively merchandising styles that fit Etsy’s prediction. And there’s even better evidence.

In July, Home Accents Today reported that retailers were embracing maximalism and nostalgia for Christmas 2026. That’s three months before Etsy published this report. The article describes retailers preparing for a holiday season featuring whimsical decorations, ribbons, tinsel, nostalgia, and more expressive styles. So Etsy certainly isn’t alone in noticing this direction.

Is Merrymaxxing Worth Selling on Etsy?

Merrymaxxing is worth investigating if your shop already features playful artwork, colorful decorations, handmade ornaments, or unusual gifts.

Tater Tot wearing an over-the-top Merrymaxxing Christmas outfit with a rhinestone Santa hat, oversized bow, colorful lights, ornaments, and a candy cane, part of the Etsy Trends 2026 report

Potential opportunities include:

  • Whimsical Christmas ornaments
  • Embellished holiday decorations
  • Colorful handmade accessories
  • DIY ornament-decorating kits
  • Unusual holiday artwork

Digital sellers could investigate printable party decorations or ornament templates, while print-on-demand sellers might test colorful seasonal designs on suitable products. But I’d be careful about treating every bright-colored Christmas product as part of this trend. For the Etsy trends 2026 report, the appeal is the distinctive style. If your shop focuses on understated, minimalist products, don’t start dumping rhinestones onto everything just because Etsy says Merrymaxxing is popular. Unless you’re like Tater Tot and that’s something you’ve always wanted to do. In that case, have at it, lol!

Are Buyers Really Looking for Handmade Products With Visible Imperfections?

Yes. Michaels independently identified growing interest in handcrafted textures, visible brushstrokes, and imperfect handmade decor in its March 2026 Creativity Trend Report. Etsy calls this trend Mark of the Maker. It’s all about products that look like somebody actually made them. Imagine that! And of course Etsy is loving this trend, lol. Instead of hiding every brushstroke, stitch, or slight variation, makers are encouraged to show the details that distinguish their work from mass-produced products.

Etsy reports year-over-year increases of:

  • 280% for hand-painted items
  • 230% for hand-woven items
  • 150% for hand-thrown items

These figures reflect Etsy’s marketplace search and sales comparisons, not an independent survey of all handmade buyers. Still, the growing interest in hand-painted, hand-woven, and hand-thrown products suggests that shoppers may be paying more attention to the craftsmanship behind what they’re buying. And for handmade sellers, that’s encouraging news. The little details that make your products different from mass-produced alternatives might be exactly what helps them stand out this holiday season.

What Did Michaels Find About Handmade Products?

Michaels published its 2026 Creativity Trend Report on March 10. One of its identified trends was Wabi-Sabi Spaces (where do they come up with these crazy trend names?!), which celebrates visible craftsmanship, texture, and imperfections in home decor.

Michaels also reported:

  • Visible mending searches increased 144% year over year.
  • DIY home decor searches increased 79%.
  • Searches for hands-on analog hobbies rose 136% over the preceding six months.

That last figure covers several activities, including knitting, crochet, embroidery, journaling, and painting. These numbers don’t directly measure demand for finished handmade products. But they do show growing interest in working with physical materials and making things by hand. And Michaels identified this trend seven months before Etsy’s October announcement. That is an encouraging sign for Etsy’s prediction.

What Does Mark of the Maker Mean for Etsy Sellers?

For handmade sellers, this may be more about improving product presentation than creating entirely new products. If you already make pottery, jewelry, sewn products, painted signs, or other handmade items, look at how you’re presenting them. Are you showing buyers the details that make them unique? Do you highlight the small imperfections in your listing photos?

And it’s not just the product photography here that matters. A polished product photograph is important, but process photos and videos can help tell the rest of the story. Images and videos of you working your craft are just as important for potential buyers to see, in both listings and social media posts. Etsy made a similar point during its September seller event, encouraging sellers to show how products are made. I covered that advice in my Etsy Up 2026 recap.

Sheldon the green turtle mascot wearing a paint-splattered artist's apron, holding a hand-painted ceramic mug and paintbrush to illustrate Etsy's Mark of the Maker holiday trend for 2026.

Personally, this is one of the most interesting entries in the Etsy trends 2026 report because Etsy is introducing more AI-powered seller tools while emphasizing the value of human craftsmanship, lol. Those ideas aren’t necessarily contradictory. Technology can help someone run a business without replacing the creative work behind the products. But it raises an interesting question about how makers can stand apart in a marketplace filled with increasingly polished digital imagery. My suggestion? If you make something by hand, make sure your customers know it. Just don’t confuse craftsmanship with poor quality. There’s a difference between charming handmade character in your products and selling something that’s falling apart, lol.

Is the Etsy 2026 Trends Table Dressing Idea Showing Up in Other Stores?

Partially. Decorative table linens and elaborate entertaining accessories are readily available through mainstream retailers, but that alone doesn’t independently confirm Etsy’s reported surge in ruffle tablecloth searches. Table Dressing is one of the more interesting trends because it involves something many sellers probably wouldn’t think about when planning holiday products. Tablecloths. Apparently, our dining tables are getting a fashion makeover this Christmas.

Etsy reports:

  • Ruffle tablecloth searches increased 841%.
  • Lace table item searches increased 68%.
  • Custom napkin searches increased 33%.
  • Table decor interest rose by double digits among Gen Z shoppers.

That 841% increase in ruffle tablecloth searches is certainly impressive, especially for a product most sellers probably wouldn’t consider a major holiday trend. It suggests shoppers are paying more attention to the details that make their holiday tables stand out, rather than focusing only on the food and decorations around them.

But here’s where I get a little cautious. An 841% increase sounds enormous, yet Etsy doesn’t tell us how many searches we’re actually talking about. Are thousands of shoppers suddenly looking for ruffled tablecloths, or did a relatively small number of searches grow dramatically? That’s why I wanted to see whether this interest was showing up beyond Etsy. If major retailers are featuring similar products, it gives us another piece of the puzzle, even if it doesn’t prove those products are flying off the shelves.

Are Other Retailers Embracing the Table Dressing Trend?

Target has a selection of ruffle tablecloths, along with traditional holiday table linens, decorative serving pieces, and entertaining accessories. That establishes product availability, but it doesn’t show whether sales are rising at anything close to Etsy’s reported search growth. And this is where I think we need to be careful. A retailer stocking something doesn’t automatically make it a trend. Otherwise, just about everything in Walmart would qualify, and we’d be here until Easter going through the list.

To validate this trend more thoroughly, I’d want additional evidence from sales reports, retailer merchandising announcements, or consumer purchasing surveys. However, Etsy isn’t the only platform highlighting this growing interest in decorative entertaining. Pinterest identified a similar theme called Artful Entertaining, which emphasizes creative tablescapes, distinctive table settings, and making gatherings more visually appealing. That overlap is interesting because two major platforms are pointing toward similar consumer interests, even if they’re measuring them differently. I explored Pinterest’s predictions in more detail in my Pinterest Holiday Trends 2026 coverage. For now, I’d classify Table Dressing as a plausible trend with some supporting retail activity, but less convincing independent evidence than Craftmas or Merrymaxxing.

What Could Etsy Sellers Offer for Table Dressing?

Tater Tot holding a stack of ruffled lace table linens and a decorated holiday napkin to represent Etsy’s Table Dressing trend on a transparent background.

Possible products include handmade table linens, decorative napkin rings, customized place cards, vintage serving dishes, and printable holiday table decorations. Digital sellers might find opportunities with coordinated menu templates and place card sets, making sure their designs complement the Table Dressing aesthetic. Vintage sellers could already have suitable serving pieces or table linens in their inventory. Print-on-demand sellers could explore coordinated holiday entertaining collections, such as matching placemats, cloth napkins, table runners, and mugs. A cohesive design could appeal to shoppers looking to dress up their holiday gatherings without buying everything separately. Just make sure your POD provider actually offers the products, and check the print quality before adding them to your shop.

There’s also a potential Pinterest connection sellers could look into for inspiration. Decorated tables are highly visual, and Pinterest has long been a place where people look for entertaining and decorating inspiration. That makes Table Dressing a category worth researching across both platforms. Just remember that a product being visually appealing doesn’t automatically make it profitable.

Is Craftmas Really Growing, or Is Etsy’s 8,500% Figure Misleading?

Craftmas has some of the strongest outside support of all seven trends. Michaels independently reported growth in craft-night searches, paint-party kits, and guided craft kit sales during 2026. That helps to reinforce the Etsy Trends 2026 report. Craftmas describes the growing interest in holiday activities where people gather to make something together. Instead of another traditional Christmas party, imagine friends decorating ornaments, learning embroidery, painting signs, or making gifts. And Etsy’s supporting numbers are enormous.

The company reports:

  • DIY activity searches increased 8,500%.
  • Beginner sewing pattern searches increased 125%.
  • Needlepoint bag interest among Gen Z shoppers increased 470%.

Now, before somebody runs out and buys $5,000 worth of crafting supplies, let’s look at what another company discovered. Etsy’s 8,500% increase certainly grabs attention, but I wanted to know whether this interest in DIY activities was showing up anywhere else. And as it turns out, Michaels had already identified something remarkably similar months before Etsy released its holiday report. Even better, Michaels wasn’t just tracking what people searched for. It also reported something I find much more interesting: actual growth in craft kit sales.

What Does Michaels’ 2026 Research Say About Craftmas?

Michaels released its 2026 Creativity Trend Report back in March, identifying a trend called Crafting Chemistry. The idea centers on people getting together to create something, whether that’s a craft night with friends, a paint party, or a beginner-friendly DIY project.

Sound familiar? That’s pretty much what Etsy is describing with Craftmas, except Michaels was talking about it seven months earlier. And the company’s research included some interesting numbers that suggest this isn’t just another passing social media craze.

The company reported:

  • Craft-night searches increased 103%.
  • Girls’ night craft searches increased 242%.
  • Paint-party-kit searches increased 329%.
  • Guided craft kit sales increased 86%.

That last number is particularly interesting. Michaels reported an 86% increase in actual guided craft kit sales, not just search interest. While the two companies measure different activities across different time periods, Michaels’ findings provide independent evidence that consumers are embracing hands-on, social crafting experiences. And Michaels isn’t just publishing a report. The company also announced expanded crafting assortments and plans for in-store creative experiences. That tells me Michaels sees enough potential in this market to invest in it, rather than simply talk about it. But does any of this mean Etsy sellers should rush to launch their own DIY kits? Not so fast, lol.

Does an 8,500% Increase Mean DIY Products Will Sell?

heldon the green turtle mascot wearing a festive craft apron, holding red scissors and a handmade Christmas ornament to represent Etsy’s Craftmas trend

No. Huge percentage increases can be misleading without the underlying search volume, competition, and sales data. Here’s a simple example. Imagine one search term received 10 searches last year. An 8,500% increase would bring it to 860. Now imagine another term received 10,000 searches and grew by only 20%. That would bring it to 12,000. Which market would you rather investigate? Exactly.

These are hypothetical numbers, not Etsy’s actual volumes. Etsy doesn’t provide the baseline counts in its trend report, so we can’t determine how large the underlying market is from the growth percentage alone. That’s why I wouldn’t build a business around that statistic without doing more research.

Which Craftmas Products Might Work for the Etsy Trends 2026 Report?

Craftmas may be especially relevant for existing craft-supply, pattern, and DIY-kit sellers. Potential opportunities include ornament-making kits, embroidery patterns, beginner sewing projects, bead kits, and printable craft activities. Digital sellers could investigate craft instructions, printable templates, or beginner-friendly patterns. Physical sellers could explore complete kits that make a creative activity easier for someone who’s never tried it before.

But if you’re selling a digital pattern, make that crystal clear. Nobody wants to order what they think is a complete Christmas craft kit and discover they purchased a PDF with a shopping list. That’s a great way to turn holiday cheer into a customer-service nightmare. Personally, Craftmas would be near the top of my research list, especially for sellers who can adapt products they already offer.

Is Operatic Drama a Real Fashion Trend Beyond the Etsy Trends 2026 Report?

Yes. Fashion publications have documented the return of statement brooches and dramatic accessories for autumn and winter 2026, supporting Etsy’s Operatic Drama theme. In the Etsy Trends 2026 Report, Operatic Drama involves ornate jewelry, dramatic fabrics, capelets, vintage accessories, and elaborate fashion. Apparently, understated holiday outfits have been told to take the year off.

Etsy reports:

  • Vintage jewelry searches increased 75%.
  • Men’s brooch searches increased 70%.
  • Capelet searches increased 47%.
  • Jacquard fabric interest among Millennial shoppers increased 23%.

What Does Vogue Say About Statement Jewelry?

British Vogue reported on the return of brooches for autumn/winter 2026, highlighting their prominence on the fashion runways. That gives Etsy’s prediction an outside reference point. The fashion industry has been exploring ornate accessories independently of Etsy’s October report. However, runway attention doesn’t necessarily translate into high sales volume on Etsy.

Fashion trends often develop through designers, editorial coverage, retailers, and consumer adoption at different speeds. A brooch appearing on a runway isn’t proof that shoppers will suddenly start buying thousands of similar products from independent sellers.

Is Operatic Drama Worth Pursuing on Etsy?

I’d prioritize this trend for vintage sellers, jewelry makers, and shops that already specialize in distinctive fashion accessories. If you sell vintage brooches, ornate jewelry, velvet accessories, or unusual clothing, this trend might give you another way to present existing products. Better lifestyle photography could be more useful than creating an entirely new collection. But if your shop sells digital planners, I wouldn’t recommend dropping everything to start manufacturing capelets. That’s a pretty big leap, even by Etsy trend standards.

Are Consumers Really Buying More Gifts for Friends and Pets?

Yes. Independent consumer research supports broader gift-giving beyond immediate family, although it doesn’t directly confirm Etsy’s Christmas-specific search increases. Etsy calls this trend Family Reimagined. It focuses on gifts for friends, pets, neighbors, and the people who play meaningful roles in our lives, blood-related or not.

Etsy reports:

  • Personalized friend gift searches increased 1,400%.
  • Pet-gifting-related searches doubled.
  • Pet ornament searches increased 22%.
  • Friendsmas party supply sales increased 37%.

That last figure caught my attention because Etsy reported a 37% increase in actual Friendsmas party supply sales, not just searches. That’s an important distinction. It suggests shoppers aren’t simply interested in the idea of celebrating their friendships; some are actually spending money on it. But is this shift toward celebrating friends, pets, and chosen family happening beyond Etsy? That’s what I wanted to find out.

What Does the National Retail Federation Say?

Sheldon the green turtle mascot hugging Tater Tot, the brown turtle mascot with glasses, with small red hearts above them on a transparent background to represent Etsy’s Family Reimagined trend.

In January 2026, the National Retail Federation published its Valentine’s Day spending research. According to its survey:

  • 33% of Valentine’s Day celebrants planned to buy gifts for friends.
  • 35% planned to buy gifts for pets.
  • 21% planned to buy gifts for coworkers.
  • 27% planned to buy gifts for classmates or teachers.

Those figures aren’t Christmas shopping statistics. But they do suggest that broader relationship-based gifting is happening outside Etsy, too. The survey also reported expected Valentine’s Day spending of $29.1 billion, with gifts for friends and pets contributing billions of dollars to that total. That’s not insignificant. And unlike a marketplace search report, the NRF research surveyed consumers about their planned purchases. It’s a different kind of evidence, and I think that’s valuable.

What Could Etsy Sellers Create for the Etsy Trends 2026 Family Reimagined Trend?

Potential products include friendship keepsakes, personalized pet ornaments, custom portraits, group gifts, and products celebrating nontraditional family relationships. Print-on-demand sellers could investigate products targeted toward specific relationships and interests. Digital sellers might explore party games, printable gift tags, or decorations for Friendsmas celebrations.

But personalization comes with additional work. You have to collect the correct information, manage the production process, and ensure the finished product matches what the buyer ordered. With that additional work in mind, increasing your prices to reflect that work makes good business sense.

Etsy announced improvements to personalization tools during Etsy Up 2026, which I covered in my event recap. Those changes could make this type of product easier for some sellers to manage. Still, an increase in personalized gift searches doesn’t mean the market is free of competition. And it doesn’t mean every seller needs to offer customization.

Are Pirate Boots Really On The Etsy Trends 2026 Report?

Believe it or not, yes. Fashion publications have reported renewed interest in buckle-heavy, pirate-inspired boots during 2026. I promise I’m not making this up, matey! The Etsy Trends 2026 Report calls the trend Freaky Festive Shoes, which includes unconventional footwear, unusual slip-ons, weather-resistant boots, and pirate-inspired styles.

Its figures include:

  • Rain boot searches increased 155%.
  • Men’s pirate boot searches increased 153%.
  • Slip shoe searches increased 55%.
  • Women’s barefoot shoe searches increased 52%.

Etsy’s Freaky Festive Shoes trend highlights unconventional footwear, including pirate-inspired boots, colorful rain boots, slip-ons, barefoot-style shoes, and bold statement designs. Original illustration created for MikeLLane.com.

What Are Fashion Publications Saying About Pirate Boots?

British Vogue covered buckle-heavy boots as an autumn 2026 fashion trend. The coverage connects with Etsy’s broader interest in unusual footwear and dramatic styling. That doesn’t verify a specific increase in pirate boot purchases, but it does show fashion editors were discussing similar styles independently. So this isn’t simply an unusual search term that Etsy decided to turn into a holiday marketing campaign. There’s broader fashion interest behind at least part of the trend.

Should Etsy Sellers Start Selling Pirate Boots?

Only if footwear, vintage fashion, or related accessories already fit your business. Shoes introduce additional challenges involving sizing, sourcing, manufacturing, fit, and returns. That’s not a category I’d recommend entering casually. A vintage clothing seller might already have suitable inventory, while a skilled footwear maker could explore the trend more directly.

But for most sellers, this is probably one to observe rather than chase. Unless, of course, you’ve been secretly waiting for the perfect opportunity to launch your pirate boot empire. In that case, this could be your moment. Arrrrgh!

Are Etsy’s 2026 Holiday Trends Actually Happening Outside Etsy?

Yes, several trends have convincing outside support, particularly Craftmas, Merrymaxxing, Mark of the Maker, and elements of Operatic Drama and Freaky Festive Shoes. But not every trend has equally strong independent evidence of consumer purchases. That’s the main conclusion from comparing Etsy’s report with other sources. And it’s something I think sellers should pay attention to.

Michaels independently documented growing interest in social crafting and hands-on creativity back in March. Retail industry reporting highlighted maximalist Christmas decorations in July. Fashion publications identified ornate jewelry and unusual footwear before Etsy released its holiday report. And the National Retail Federation documented broader gifting patterns involving friends and pets. Those connections make Etsy’s predictions more credible as descriptions of wider consumer interests.

Mike, Sheldon, and Tater Tot investigating Etsy's 2026 holiday trends using an evidence board featuring retail research, craft sales, fashion coverage, and gifting trends.

But there’s an important distinction between independent confirmation that a style is gaining attention and proof that a specific Etsy product will generate sales. For example, Vogue can confirm that statement brooches are appearing in fashion collections. It can’t tell us how many people will buy a vintage brooch from a particular Etsy seller in November. Likewise, Target featuring whimsical holiday decorations shows a merchandising direction, not the number of items sold.

If we’re looking for the strongest evidence of real purchasing activity to support the Etsy Trends 2026 Report, Michaels’ 86% increase in guided craft kit sales and Etsy’s own Friendsmas party supply sales increase are particularly useful. They’re actual sales measurements rather than product availability or editorial predictions. And that’s why I think Craftmas deserves closer examination.

Which of the Etsy Trends 2026 Should Small Sellers Investigate First?

I’d start with Craftmas, Mark of the Maker, and Family Reimagined, provided they fit the products and skills you already have. That’s not a ranking of proven profitability. It’s just my assessment of which themes offer practical opportunities across several types of Etsy shops.

Seller typeTrends to investigate firstPotential approach
HandmadeMark of the Maker, CraftmasShow the making process or offer creative kits
Digital productsCraftmas, Table DressingPatterns, templates, printables, activities
Print-on-demandFamily Reimagined, MerrymaxxingSpecific audiences and expressive designs
VintageOperatic Drama, Table DressingStyle existing inventory around current interests
Craft suppliesCraftmasBeginner-friendly projects and kits
JewelryOperatic Drama, Mark of the MakerStatement pieces and visible craftsmanship

The key is to look for opportunities that complement your shop rather than require you to start over. If you’re already selling hand-painted pottery, Mark of the Maker might be an opportunity to improve your photographs and show more of your process. If you sell embroidery patterns, Craftmas might provide a reason to create a beginner-friendly holiday version. And if you already make pet ornaments, Family Reimagined might be worth researching further.

But don’t launch 50 new products just because a trend report tells you something is popular. That’s a whole lot of work based on very little product-specific evidence. Trust me, I know how easy it is to create more work for yourself. I’m practically a professional at it, lol.

How Can Etsy Sellers Verify Whether Any of the 2026 Etsy Trends Are Worth Pursuing?

Start with Etsy Marketplace Insights, investigate specific product keywords, compare competition, and calculate your potential profit before investing in inventory or new designs. The outside research helps us determine whether these themes are gaining broader attention. It doesn’t replace research into the actual products you want to sell. Here’s how I’d approach it.

Start With Specific Products, Not Trend Names

Start With Specific Products, Not Trend Names

Most shoppers probably aren’t typing “Mark of the Maker” into Etsy search. They’re looking for things like hand-painted mugs, embroidery kits, personalized ornaments, or vintage brooches. Instead of researching only Etsy’s marketing names, identify actual products and search phrases associated with them.

For Craftmas, you might investigate beginner embroidery kits or ornament-making kits. On something like Table Dressing, you could research custom place cards or holiday table linens. For Family Reimagined, you might look at specific friendship or pet gift searches. These are research starting points, not verified high-demand keywords, but you get the point. Like I mentioned earlier, Merrymaxxing rendered zero search results in Etsy Marketplace Insights.

Check Etsy Marketplace Insights

Etsy’s Marketplace Insights tool can help sellers investigate search activity and related opportunities within the marketplace. At Etsy Up 2026, Etsy announced improvements involving price ranges, search conversion data, saved searches, and additional trend windows. You can read more about those updates in my Etsy Up 2026 recap.

Etsy also links directly to its Marketplace Insights guidance from the holiday trend report. I’d compare several related terms rather than make a decision based on one search. And remember that some newer features may still be rolling out, so your Shop Manager might not show every option yet.

Compare Demand With Competition

Compare Demand With Competition

This is where things get interesting. You want to understand not just how many people might search for a product, but how many competing listings already exist and whether you can offer something different. Look at pricing, presentation, materials, shipping costs, and the types of products buyers can already choose from.

But don’t assume every listing in the search results represents an identical competitor. A handmade ceramic ornament isn’t necessarily competing with every mass-produced holiday decoration on Etsy. The closer the products are in style, audience, price, and purpose, the more useful the comparison becomes.

Calculate Profit Before You Create Anything

A product might look promising until you calculate what it actually costs to sell. Consider materials, production, packaging, shipping, Etsy fees, advertising, and your time. A trend with strong demand isn’t much use if every sale leaves you with pocket change. Always protect your margins! If you’re just starting out, my article on whether selling on Etsy is worth it goes into more detail about the marketplace’s costs and competition.

Test Small Before Going All In

If something looks promising, start with a limited number of products or variations. Watch how shoppers respond. And don’t tear apart listings that are already performing well just because the Etsy Trends 2026 Report is making predictions. There’s a difference between making an informed adjustment and chasing every shiny object that comes along. Although, admittedly, I have a bit of experience with the second one. Lol.

How Do Etsy’s Holiday Trends Compare With Etsy Up 2026?

The 2026 Etsy Holiday Trend Report builds on several themes it highlighted during Etsy Up in September, especially whimsy, handmade craftsmanship, meaningful gifts, and offline creative activities. During Etsy Up 2026, the company discussed five holiday themes:

  • World of Whimsy
  • Soft Stitch Era
  • Future Heirlooms
  • Sensory Maxing
  • Analog Resurgence

Now we’re seeing several related ideas in the October report. Merrymaxxing continues the interest in whimsical decorations. Mark of the Maker emphasizes the importance of handcrafted details. Family Reimagined overlaps with meaningful, emotionally connected gift-giving. And Craftmas fits naturally with the broader return to analog activities. These are thematic connections, not proof that Etsy’s earlier predictions caused the new trends. But they do suggest Etsy has been tracking some of these interests throughout the year.

And when we compare them with Michaels’ March research and other outside reporting, a broader pattern starts to emerge. People appear interested in products and experiences that feel creative, personal, tactile, and distinctive. For small sellers, those are areas worth watching.

What Do Etsy’s Holiday Trend Statistics Actually Mean?

What Do Etsy's Holiday Trend Statistics Actually Mean

Etsy’s reported percentages measure changes in marketplace activity, not guaranteed demand or profitability for individual products. According to Etsy, the report generally compares activity during the three months ending September 14, 2026, with the corresponding period the previous year. Its search-growth figures use normalized query volume and primarily reflect U.S. signed-in user activity. Some demographic statistics come from subsets of buyers. And a few figures measure favorites or sales rather than searches. Those details matter.

An 8,500% increase in searches doesn’t tell us how many searches occurred. A 62% increase in favorites doesn’t tell us how many people completed a purchase. And a product appearing at a major retailer doesn’t necessarily mean that retailer is selling enormous quantities of it. That’s why I wanted to compare Etsy’s report with other sources in the first place.

The goal isn’t to prove Etsy right or wrong. It’s to understand which trends have broader evidence behind them, where the evidence is limited, and what sellers can reasonably do with the information.

Etsy Holiday Trends 2026 FAQ

What are the biggest Etsy trends for Christmas 2026?

Etsy identified Merrymaxxing, Mark of the Maker, Table Dressing, Craftmas, Operatic Drama, Family Reimagined, and Freaky Festive Shoes as its seven Fall and Winter 2026 trends.

Is the Etsy Trends 2026 Report supported by other retailers?

Several have independent support. Michaels reported growth in crafting and handmade activities, Target features whimsical Christmas decorations, and fashion publications have covered statement jewelry and unusual boots. However, those sources don’t validate every Etsy search percentage.

What is the fastest-growing Etsy holiday trend in 2026?

Craftmas features the largest reported search increase among Etsy’s highlighted statistics, with DIY activity searches growing 8,500%. That figure alone doesn’t establish total demand or actual product sales.

What are the best Etsy Christmas products to sell in 2026?

There isn’t one universally best product. Handmade decorations, craft kits, personalized gifts, digital patterns, and vintage accessories may be worth investigating depending on your shop. Sellers should research demand, competition, costs, and fulfillment before deciding.

Is it too late to start selling Christmas products on the Etsy Trends 2026 Report in October?

Not necessarily. Sellers with ready-to-ship products, digital downloads, or existing designs they can adapt may still have opportunities. Products requiring extensive development or long shipping times need more careful planning.

My Take: The Etsy Trends 2026 Report Looks Promising, but Don’t Skip the Research

After comparing the Etsy Trends 2026 Report with what other retailers and researchers are reporting, I’m more interested in several of them than I was when I first opened the report. Craftmas has particularly convincing support because Michaels reported growth in both search interest and actual craft kit sales. Mark of the Maker also fits a broader interest in hands-on creativity and visible craftsmanship. Merrymaxxing appears consistent with holiday merchandising directions retailers were discussing months ago. And yes, even those ridiculous pirate boots have some real fashion coverage behind them.

What Should Etsy Sellers Take Away From These Trends?

But here’s what I don’t want sellers to take away from this article. I don’t want you to see an 8,500% increase, panic that you’re missing out, and spend the next three weeks developing products you never planned to sell. Trends are opportunities to investigate, not instructions you have to follow. Sometimes the best opportunity is sitting right there in your existing inventory. As I’ve been told my whole life, sometimes it’s best to stay in your lane, lol.

Etsy Trends 2026 Pirate Boots for Freaky Festive Shoes Trend

A better photograph, a more specific audience, or a seasonal variation of something you already sell might make a lot more sense than starting an entirely new product line. That’s especially true in October, when holiday shopping is already underway and time is getting tight. If you want to read Etsy’s complete findings, check out the official Fall and Winter 2026 Seller Trend Report.

Then take a look at Marketplace Insights, do some research, and decide whether any of these trends actually fit your business. As for me, I’ll keep watching what Etsy and the other retailers are doing as the holiday season develops. And I promise to report back if the pirate boot market suddenly explodes. Because if we’re going to investigate Etsy trends, we might as well have a little fun with it, landlubber!
